My boys arose early to go out with the scouts and place American Flags throughout the neighborhood. I also hung out my flags on the front deck.
We worked in the yard this morning and I was able to get several loads of laundry washed!
We grilled hamburgers and had corn on the cob for dinner. Utah has passed a law permitting aerial fireworks. It was simply amazing tonight to see fireworks in 360 degree surround!
Some Thoughts This Independence Day
Today, is the anniversary of the birth of a nation, our nation. I had several maternal ancestors and fraternal ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War, risking their lives, to secure the blessings of liberty for their posterity. God gave us our rights, these men secured or protected those rights. We in turn, by our consent, give privileges to men to serve us. It has been 235 years since they established our nation. In that time I think many have forgotten that God, our Creator, gave us our rights and those rights are inherent; our government servants have the privilege to serve us and for that privilege they have sworn to protect the very document that defines their responsibilities and limits. We have responsibilities too. I do believe we will be held accountable for how we use our freedoms, and for those we select to legislate, judge and execute the laws.
How is our freedom today? Do our children understand the great blessing they have and their responsibilities towards it? Do we have appetites that we turn to government to satisfy-- whether basic sustenance or for our desire for ease and pleasure? How independent are we as individuals? As our nation struggles economically, are we part of the solution? Does our parenting style and family government reflect our understanding of the principles of the proper role of government? Do our children know and understand just and holy principles, because they experience them in our homes? Something to think about...
